About us

From the South (Vanuit het Zuiden) is a cultural European organization based in Amsterdam. It was created by a group of intellectuals in order to emphasize the input of non-European artists and intellectuals in the enrichment of European cultures, through the establishment of a network involving European and non-Europeans living in Europe. It aims to make the cultures of the South better known in Europe by organizing cultural activities in different fields : theater, literature, music, cinema….The founders of the organization are professionals who have experience in the fields of journalism and film criticism, production and audiovisual production and theatrical they are also used to organize cultural events, conferences and festivals.




The overall objective of the association From the South are:

a. to contribute to the cultural dialogue between North and South;

b. to provide support to artists and journalists from the south (those living in Europe but also in their own countries;

c. to facilitate all kinds of contacts and networking between artists from the South and from Europe;

d. to help organizations from the south to develop projects (festivals, workshops, conferences,...) and all kinds of activities contributing to the promotion of artistic and cultural initiatives.

e. to promote cultural projects connected to economic development of societies of the South.





Means and activities

Article 3

To attain its objects, the association shall:

a. organize seminars and conferences to promote its objects and to exchange experience and expertise between professionals in cultural fields from Europe or / and from the South,

b. professionalize the artists by organizing workshops and meetings,

c. organize festivals and meeting to promote knowledge of cultural differences,

d. edit publications on different cultural specificities,

e. promote networks between artists and intellectuals from the South living in Europe,

f. work for better integration of artists and journalists in European contexts,

g. and take any further necessary actions to attain its objectives.
